Macros

Hope someone can help. When I startup Excel it comes up in PERSONAL.XLS
instead of Book 1. Also, when I enter data and then save my work as a
different name, the next time I open that file it comes up as PERSONAL.XLS
again and gives me the choice of 'Disable Macros', 'Enable Macros', or 'More
Info'. If I choose 'Disable Macros' or 'Enable Macros' it then opens my
file but also opens the PERSONAL.XLS file. So, I end up with two files
open.

When I look at the Tools>Macros it shows no macros open and all buttons are
grayed out except the 'Cancel' button. I am unable to create a macro.

Got a mess here and don't know what to do with it. Obviously, I'd like a
new file to come up as Book 1 without the opening dialog about macros and
then be able to create a macro if needed.

Thanks for any help,

George

The personal.xls macro workbook should be hidden, when you have opened Excel
and personal.xls do window>hide, close Excel and save the changes when
prompted. Next time you open it you should get Book1

Hi George,
Don't know if this was also a problem,
but the warning about "enable" or "disable" macros is normal.
May not be the best wording, but it is a warning that the workbook
contains macros. It can save you lots of grief if someone sends
you a file and you open it accidentally or thinking it didn't contain
macros.
Next time you open it (Excel) you should get Book1

which you would save as a different name in somewhere
of your choice. The default directory is specified in
tools, options, general -- default file location:
