Macromedia Flash Player ads won't stop coming!

Almost everytime I go from one web page to another, especially when in Yahoo Groups, the
ad for Macromedia Flash Player pops up on the screen. I can't do anything until I "x"
it out. This has become very intrusive and I wonder if there is a way to stop it...and
how is it getting onto my screen, is it a popup, does it come through Messenger, is
there some other channel that it uses?

Any information would help...but please don't tell me to download this thing because
there's no way in hell I will do that.

jbclem1,
The first thing to do is to scan your system for the possibility of
unknown\unwanted spyware or parasites that may be causing your problem(s).

I do that every few days and it doesn't pick up on this. I'd like to know where this
Macromedia intrusion is coming from, then I can figure out how to deal with it.
