Hi
I have an Excel 97 macro that is quite time consuming to run. If excel has
focus, the macro runs noticably quicker. Is there any way for the macro to
run at the same speed as when excel has focus, but when excel is in the
background or hidden?

TIA
Ben

This sounds more like a windows question to me.

In some versions of windows (WinNT, Win2k and probably more), you can hit
alt-ctrl-delete to pop up the taskmanager.

From there you can use the processes tab (for excel.exe) and change the
"priority" level (IIRC, Realtime through Low).

Just a warning, I wanted to do the same thing and played with this setting. I
had to reboot to be able to use my pc. I set the priority level too high and
couldn't get windows to respond to my keystrokes.

And if you "steal" the cycles for your excel macro, then something else loses.

I've learned to just keep excel as the application with focus.

Dave,

I think you should set ALL the programs to HIGH priority. That way, they
all run faster. Makes sense to me! :)
