Macro Security

Hello,

We are having a macro security problem where I work. Prior to converting to
Windows XP, we were using NT with Office XP and everything seemed run fine
(The message always popped up, a pain but it worked). Now that we have
converted to XP Professional in a network environment, the macro warning
appears sporadically when opening Excel files that contain macros.
Sometimes the message appears and we say yes, and they still do not enable.
We have had to close the file and reopen it as many as six times before they
would enable.

The network administrators have preset the security level to medium, so we
can not change this.

Is this a know problem? And if so, is there a solution?

Also, one more question. When you type a simple formula in Excel 2002, such
as "=1000/7*12", Excel sometimes summarizes the formula to
"=142.857142857143*12" This may save file size, but it ruins the ability to
review people methodology in certain cases. Is there a setting that can
prevent this?

Thank you,

Travis

Your post looks lonely.

I've never seen xl2002 do this, but I use it on win98.

Just a minor insult: Have you actually seen this or are you taking the word of
a user?

(I don't have a suggestion either way--but if you've never seen it happen, then
I'm not sure I'd trust the other user. I've seen lots of things that are blamed
on xl, but turn out to be Oopsies on the user's part (myself included!).)

And I'm no help for the second part either. I've never seen xl do this either.
The closest I can get is if I type:

=1000/7
and hit f9.
but then I get
142.8571...
and it's no longer a formula.

I can type
=1000/7
highlight 1000/7 and hit f9 and it shows as
=132.8571
and I can continue the formula.

This doesn't sound like something anyone can do by accident.

Good luck in your search!

Nope I've repeatedly seen it and they confirmed it's a network issue. I'm
just the goto person.

Is Excel reaching the end users via an application server or does each user
have their own copy of the same version and service pack of Excel on their
machine? I know where I used to work the company used an application server
but because network outages would occur more often than I liked, I had a copy
of the various Microsoft apps on my machine.

Just something to add to your work load :) Very odd stuff, good luck!
