macro recorded in one document doesn't show up in a new document

I recorded a simple macro to remove hard returns within paragraphs from email
text files. I later opened a new file and went to run the macro I had saved,
but it didn't show up. It's still there when I open the first file. How do I
save it so that it is available to all Word files that I edit?

It should be saved in your normal.dot template (the default).

An alternative option to using the normal.dot template (as this affects ALL
your documents) would be to create another template (xxx.dot file), and using
Templates and Addins, point yoour second and any subsequent files (.docs) to
that template.

That way only the files you want to act this way will be affected.

The macro I create is saved initially. I can close the original document,
open another and run the macro successfully. If I close Word 2007 and reopen
it later, however, the Macro is no longer present. I experienced this with
Word 2003 and had to change something with a security setting. I have tried
lowering my setting to medium on my new Word 2007-equipped computer to no
avail. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Macros by default are saved in the normal template normal.dotm. If you fail
to save this template when you close Word then the changes will not be
available next time. You can set an option to prompt you to save the
template in Word Options. If it fails to prompt then the indications are
that something (a rogue add-in?) is preventing the save.

Some company networks renew the normal template when you log in. In that
case you will need to consult your IT support.

Thank you. It seems to be working now.
