macro doesn't record properly in Powerpoint 2002

I'm having a problem recording macros in PP02. After recording, when I look
at the macro code, chunks that should be there just aren't there, so the
macro doesn't run properly or at all. Recording the same macros in PP 2000
works without any problem.
In particular, I'm having problems trying to create a macro to apply custom
animations to text. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

The animation portion of PowerPoint changed drastically in version 2002.

While 2000 and prior used basic one-after-another entrance animation steps,
2002 opened up the ability to run multiple animations at the same time,
motion paths, triggers, emphasis and exit effects. To do this, they created
a new animation timeline object. Read this link for more information on the
timeline object and how to program for it.

Many thanks for your response. However, I am approaching this from a
non-programmer's point view. I want to create the macro by using the
Tools/Macro/Record New Macro command in the gui. I'm trying to describe the
steps for an ECDL textbook which is aimed at general users!
It's my impression it may no longer be possible to do this using gui
commands (as it was in PP2000) - I thought successive releases of a product
were supposed to improve, not deteriorate!

Your impression is dead on target.

The ability to do neat things via the GUI improved tremendously, especially in
the area of animation. But the macro recorder has always been more of a power
user/programmer's tool and as such, sits in the back row when resources for Neat
New Stuff are handed out. It hasn't kept up and will probably get further behind
over time.

Which, from a business and average user's point of view, is how it should be,
however much the likes of you 'n me may decry it.
