Hi all,

My MacAfee has just expired on my Dell desktop.

Do I renew or do I install a free prog such as Avast or one of the
others of that type?

What are currently the best AV progs around - I struggled a bit with
Avast a couple of years
ago..

Windows XP Pro.

Regards

Windows XP Pro.

Windows XP Pro here too, and never struggled with Avast! these years.
However, I keep running only the standard shield, I didn't even install all
the other providers. IMO what matters is the standard shield.
I highly recommend Avast!.

better renew. freeware a/v ain't worth squat.
I never heard such rubbish; ditch the MacaFee, try to cleanse it out of you
system and use one of the A/V progs recommended here.

I use Antivir, but I hesitate to compare it with other progs, there is
enough support for quite a few to enable you to try with confidence.

(PS, if you don't believe me, read some of the other posts that will

I'll second the motion for Avast.

I heartily concur, Mike. ;-)

Brian,

I use KAV, love it and Kaspersky Labs Forum for help.

Before you do ANYTHING, check these out:

http://www.av-comparatives.org/

http://www.av-test.org/

If you are looking for a reason to dump McAfee, start here:

http://vmyths.com/rant.cfm?id=279&page=4

http://vmyths.com/search3.cfm?id=mcafee&page=0

A lot of people around here use:

Free: Avast or AVG
Paid: NOD32 or KAV

Download and try Avast and AVG. See if you like either. And then when
you have the time, most of the AV apps that require a license ($) allow
for a 30-day trial period. I you don't like it, get your money back.
Keep in mind that they ALL work better with faster processors and more RAM.

Ron :-)
