Mac OS X (Panther) won't connect to Windows Small Business Server 2003

I have done just about everything I can think of but I
have a Mac OS X that will not connect o the Wndows 2003
Server Small Business Server. I can see the server, ping
it, I can see the workstations (XP & 2K)and connect to
their shared drives but not to the server.

Evertime I try to log into it I get a message that the
username and password are not correct. I am using the
administrator user name and password. Is there a
configuration setting that needs to be set in the Windows
server?

Thank you

Hi Larry!

This sounds like a common problem introduced with Windows 2003 servers.

Check out Item 5 on this page on Microsoft's website
<http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;823659>, which
refers to a domain and/or server policy you can change to "disabled"
from "enabled" to allow clients with older SMB software, such as Macs,
to connect.

Hope this helps! bill

I am experienceing EXACTLY the same issue. I dont think it's a windows
issue though. I can make a stable connection with Macs running
10.2.8(jaguar) but not 10.3.5(panther)
I think it's an issue specifically with a 10.3.5 Mac hitting a Win2003
server
I'll continue to check this thread and add anything I discover

Hi,

Go to computer management -->right click on shared folder and clik the
configure file services for macintosh and change the Enbable authentication
type to "Apple clear text or Microsoft only", then try to connect the share
again from the mac machine.
