Oh I just read this again. So he wants to complain to Microsoft about what
Lavasoft is doing? And Lavasoft is doing what he told it to do, ie retain
his home page. The biggest irony being he must have set it to msn sometime
himself. What a hoot! What a twat.

Yeah... something like that :)

Okay, but I wish Microsoft would not do this.

FYI, I think it was the upgrade advisor that caused my homepage to be switched in my 98SE edition.

I suspect you've ****ed up, I have all the updates and dont have this issue,

you propose. I wonder if you selected it at one point (or it was selected as
part of install) and have also installed some kind of
anti-home-page-hijacker that is forcing your system back to what it was when
you set it up? Do you have anything like that on your system? 'fess up

Bullshit, you lying sheep. It happens even with W98 users...I see it all the
damn time when I go out on calls to repair *other* shit that's wrong with M$
machines.

So do users need to use FireFox or Mozilla for a secure browsing experience?
I am now completely fed up with IE 6 sp1.

It's a step in the right direction.

The newest Adaware is broken and responsible for the trouble. I apologize for blaming Microsoft. I ran Spysweeper by Webroot, CWShredder, and Spybot and they all came out negative for problems.

A bad version of Adaware is responsible for a false positive of an attempted hijacker. I have run CWShredder, SpySweeper by Webroot (paid version), PestPatrol, Spybot -- search and destroy and have confirmed that my dad had the exact same error in his Adaware with XP Home. When letting Adaware fix the false error it removes safety of xxxtoolbar from SpywareBlaster as well as resetting your homepage to msn.com. Please ignore this false reading and someone contact LavaSoft.

Hardly. Your competence to use it may be broken. Stick to the Spysweeper
scam, it suits you better.

You may inded be having some difficulty with Ad-aware, however it is a
confirmed reality that some IE updates, and even the base install of
IE6sp1, resets the default IE start page to msn even though leaving the
apparent setting for homepage to what it previously was.

I have been using AAW6.181 for about a week on many machines without any
difficulty. Have you updated it before scanning?

Steve

I have been using AAW6.181 for months with no problems at all. Ran it today
in fact.

The affected version was the 8 May 2004 version of Adaware. I have now uninstalled and reinstalled Adaware and have the 16 May 2004 version which is working correctly for me. Thanks for your input, Steve.
