M-Audio versus Audigy2?

Hi all,

Im planning a sound card purchase, and wanted to get some opinions
from users of these two cards: The M-Audio Revolution 7.1 and Audigy2.

I do like gaming, but am not a hard-core gamer requiring major sound
effects during gaming.
So, i mostly want this card for its music playback.

Is any card buggy? Any have better audio quality? Good/Bad drivers?

Thanks,
tunicate

the sound is the same as any other 6.1 5.1 4.1 even my cmedia 6.1 sounds pretty good (15$) if your not interested in the INPUTS of
the platinum...then go mid range around 40-50 bucks and you'll have a decent card...don't spend a fortune... heck the nieghbors kid
bought one of those cmedia 8739(?) chipped cards and bought a home theater at a garage sale for 20$ hooked that up and I can hear
him playing against my grandkids from across the way.. LOL

I installed a Audigy 2 Gamer in my system and got repeated lockups. Returned
the card and purchased an M-Audio Revolution 7.1. Couldn't be happier...the
website drivers installed without a hitch, the software to set up the
speakers is simple to use but has a lot of features. It has preset profiles
for different brand/model speaker systems, or you can define you own and
save them. I would recommend this card without hesitation, an IMHO, it's a
better buy than the Audigy. I'll include my system specs so you see what
other devices it's "getting along" with.

Thanks!,

this is the kind of stuff I was looking for. Looks like the M-audio is
gonna be it for me.

Isn't the M-Audio R 7.1 more processor intensive? Only because it relies on
the CPU for some of the processing? I have used the Audigy 2 before and it
was flawless.

The Revolution doesn't provide DirectSound acceleration; as such the
channels are powered by the CPU. This affects gaming only, and I haven't
noticed any difference. It hasn't been an issue for me, but I don't worry if
my framerates aren't 99 fps all the time.
