Hello to whom it may concern: Using Winxp Luna Look, uses
some of my systems resources. But when I use the classic
Look I do see alittle system boots. So My question is
this. What part of my system resources are being used, by
the Luna look? And will it degrade the performance of
the computer over time As stated my (Smart Computing
Magazine)? And will the classic look aloud my computer
to last longer using it in a normal matter?

James

P.S. So I asume that the classic look does not use these
resources and if these resources are freed up, where
do they go to speed up my compter's performance.

I think mostly what it uses is memory, but I suppose it takes a bit more
processor resources to draw all that stuff. Anyway, even when you switch to
the classic style the themes service is still running and using up around 5
to 10MB of system memory. If you do not wish to use Luna I recommend
disabling the themes service to free up this memory. Just go to start, run,
and type services.msc to start the services console. Scroll down the list to
the themes service, double click on it and set it to disabled. You can go
ahead and stop it also while you are here. It will not start up the next
time you boot. There are quite a few other services that most people don't
need and you can free up quite a bit of resources by disabling them. Just be
very careful when doing so because if you disable a needed service things
tend to stop working. This site has a very good guide you might want to
check out:

As for your other question I don't think running themes would have any
effect on how long the system would remain reliable. They just use up a few
more resources.
