Just upgraded from XP to Vista Home Premium and on trying to connect to the
internet it fails. I select to Diagnose and Repair and get message to remove
"An installed Layered Service Provider is Malfunctioning".

Get this each type I start up.

It does result in getting access (but only sometimes not all times).

This and the fact I no longer have sound (Creative Audigy - code note load
driver error) - is making Vista a disappointment.

Using Wireless and BT Broadband. Was working perfectly with XP.

LSP is Layered Security Protocol
In XP they had a problem with some spyware infecting it and when the spyware
was removed, internet access was disrupted.
There was a fix downloadable (lspfix.exe) that would restore access.
You could also (sometimes) restore access by running the following from the
command line
netsh winsock /reset
after a reboot, internet access was usually restored.
As a last resort, removing ALL LAN adapters, rebooting and reinstalling,
then setting the network back up would restore access (as it rebuilt the
winsock file)
I haven't seen that problem in Vista, but it may still exist.
