LSASS Problem

I installed the Live Update for Norton and scanned the computer but Norton did not find a virus. I'm still getting the LSASS shutdown error. I have a firewall (Black Ice) but it seems to be going around it. I can't stay on long enough to downlowad the microsoft patches. There are no programs running with the _up.exe or skynet type programs to stop. I have looked on the registry and it doesn't have the avent line in the run area or anywhere else. I will try the shutdown -a but am wondering what kind of variant to the Lasser worm this must be? Has anyone else had this type of problem? Should I install the microsoft WindowsXP firewall with the Black Ice firewall?

Q. "Should I install the microsoft WindowsXP firewall with the Black Ice firewall?"
A. No, only use one firewall. Using two will cause conflicts and errors.

My parents have the same problem as you, can't stay on
line and the PC shuts down in a count of 60 all the
time. They are going frantic to sort it out. They do
not have a firewall but have Norton and again found no
virus. What can they do?

Try the stinger.exe program offered by Mcafee. I had the same problem with my computer this weekend, and the stinger.exe (hopefully) took care of it. You can get it for free on the Mcafee web site.

2 things you can do...reformat you comp and lose
everything on it...or b4 you log on the net...go to
start, run, type cmd to go into DOS..next time your comp
goes to shutdown...type in the dos screen shutdown -
a...by doin this you abort the shutdown..and then you can
go into the site and download the patches..if you got
anymore probs..just ask
