HELLO LAST NIGHT I RECEIVED A LSASS.EXE MESSAGE ON MY PC
AND IT MENTIONS ABOUT A PASSWORD THEN CLOSES DOWN. IM
RUNNING A EMACHINES 770 WITH 256MB RAM. IT JUST CLOSES
DOWN AND CANT SEEM TO RECOVER ANY OF MY WORK. ANYBODY
HELP? WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

I got the same thing on my PC. It says "lsass.exe - System
error" and "Object name not found". If I press OK or "X"
the PC reboots and I can't get out of this loop. I found
someone on annoyances.org who had the same problem who
said he had to reload XP. I don't want to do this and I
desperately need what's on my PC for a term paper. Can
anybody help???

Try doing a Repair Install first. Sorry to say, my experience has been
that a full install (format drive) has been necessary, but you might
get lucky. As far as your term paper, you should restore from backup.
Didn't make backups? Now you know why you should have. The smart thing
to do is to first slave the hard drive in another machine and copy the
data you need and burn to a cd-r. That way you don't have to worry
about losing anything important. If you can't do this yourself, take
the machine to a good local computer shop - not a Best Buy or CompUSA -
and have them rescue the data and fix the computer. Not very expensive,
but the safest thing to do.
