When XP home edition has been running a few minutes I get
a message that the c:\windows\system32\lsass.exe did not
execute properly and the system will restart in 1 minute.
This problem is preventing me from going online with my
laptop and I'm stationed in Iraq so going to the local
repair shop is out of the question. I do not have my
Windows XP cd with me.

First turn on your firewall, next when the next countdown starts go to
start and bring up the "run" command type in
shutdown -a and hit ok (there is a space between shutdown and -) This should
keep your computer from shutting down again until the next reboot.
You have either the Blaster or Sasser worm here is a link for free online

.
Sounds like you have the Sasser worm. The fix is posted
on Symantec's web site at

2.sasser.removal.tool.html. You can abort the Shutdown
by typing Shutdown /a at a command prompt.
