Hi, I would like to format a LS120Mb (Super)diskette and can't figure out how
to it using WindowsXP Pro. Is there is a utility in WindowsXP that would
allow me to format a 120 diskette or a program (utility) that I can download
that would enable me to format a superdisk? Thank you, Bob

There are a few reasons why you may want to stop using
LS120 diskettes:
- Compatibility. Very few people have an LS120 drive.
- Capacity. Flash disks have far greater capacity.
- Speed. Flash disks are much faster.
- Reliability. Flash disks are much more reliable.

Use a flash disk to transport files from one PC to another.
Use a 2.5" hard disk in an external USB case for long-term
backups.

If ide connected, XP should know the difference between a LS120 diskette and
a 1.44MB floppy diskette in the LS120 drive. And, format accordingly.

None of which answers the OP's question, making it irrelevant to anything,
including the unasked for advice.

For the OP:
Try formatting one and see what format options are presented. I suspect it
may require a driver for the drive but that's as far as I can guestimate.

Pop`

Make sure the drive is listed in your BIOS. XP loads drivers based on the
BIOS and firmware ID's.
Check the drive manufacturer web site for XP drivers if needed.

The LS-120 does not utilize any special drivers. If your system acknowledges
the drive without giving you an option to format the disc at 120MB's then
you probably have an issue with either the drive or media. These units were
notorious for the heads becoming misaligned, especially in their early
production :-)

Thank you for your help guys, it appears that I am having a tough time
formatting the Super Disk(ette) using Windows, is there a utilty (outside
Windows) that I can download to allow me to format a 120 diskette? Thank you
again for your help guys,
Bob

I have two LS120 installation files from many years ago when
I believed that LS120 was the future in floppy disk technology:
One for Win2000 (which probably works for WinXP too),
one for DOS. Both are about 1 MByte in size. If you post a
valid EMail address then I'm prepared to send them to you.

If you would do a google search you would probably find it. I have
Syquest Sparq drives that I have a lt of info on. I did a google search
and found drivers that would let me use them with XP.

Thanks Pegasus, I use WindowsXP Pro so you might as well send both of them
to (e-mail address removed).
Thanks, Bob

If the header information of the file for dos indicates Compaq, its most
likely a low-level formatting tool.

Done.

Thank you for sending me the files Frederik, unfortunately I am not quite
sure what to do?l I Un-Zipped both files but can not find the "executable"
unzipped files?
What is / are the name(s) of the file after they are Un-Zipped?
Thanks, Bob

Perhaps you need to get a new pair of glasses, same as
I did last week, so that you can see "setup.exe" in the
unzipped version. Here is the complete listing:

I have an appointment with the Optometrist Pegasus but I am not sure if it
will help since I am unable to open either of the files.
I think that I will just try and destroy them, thanks again for your help

I showed you the list of unzipped files. Can you see that
list on your PC? Is setup.exe there? What happens when
you double-click it? What happens when you run it from
a Command Prompt?

I recommend you create a new post instead of piggy-backing on
somebody else's post that is two months old. When you do, remember
to state your problem in detail.
