LPT & USB printer conflict

I have a W98, one printer on LPT another on USB. The USB printer is
the default one. After starting Windows I'm not able to print on it. I
have to mark the LPT one as default, print something, change the
default to USB one and than I'm able to print on it.
Does anybody know where is the problem?
