Hello,

on Windows 2000
Settings --> Control Panel --> Administartive Tools --> Local Security Policy
I am able to see the "effective security setting" column in 2000.

On XP
Control Panel --> Administartive Tools --> Local Security Policy
I don't see the "effective security setting" column on the windows XP machine?

I was looking on Microsoft web site and did not find anything on this... any
idea?
I am looking for an answer but also a document if any..

There isn't a effective security setting column.

On the View menu, click Add/Remove Columns.

Available columns:
[[Lists the columns for the selected item in the console tree that are not
currently displayed in the details pane. To display a hidden column, click
the column in Hidden columns, and then click Add.]]

Displayed columns:
[[Lists the columns for the selected item in the console tree that are
currently displayed in the details pane. The top-to-bottom order of the list
determines the left-to-right order of the columns in the details pane.
To hide a displayed column, click the column in Displayed columns, and then
click Remove. If the Remove button is unavailable after you click a column,
then you cannot hide that column.]]

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Thanks for the response but I do not have anymore column in the "Available
Columns" box and I don't have the "Hidden Column" filed or box on the screen?

Could it be a User restrictions or something?

There ain't no Effective Security Setting column in Local Security Settings
in XP.

There are Policy and Security Setting columns in everything in Local
Security Settings in XP, except that IP Security Policies on Local Computer
has Name, Description and Policy Assigned columns.

Vogel,

It was the answer I was really waiting for. Did Microsoft wrote anything
about this as my management is tough on who said what?

Thanks,

Maybe you have to be on a domain. I do not honestly know, I have one
machine.

This is all that I can find on effective security setting.

"The Group Policy model specifies that any policy settings configured
locally may be overridden by like policy settings specified in the domain.
The Local Security Settings UI lists the local security setting and the
effective security setting for each policy item. (You can access the Local
Security Settings UI by clicking Start, pointing to Programs, clicking
Administrative Tools, and selecting Local Security Policy). If the
*effective security setting* is different from the local security setting,
it implies that there is a policy from the domain that is overriding your
setting."
