LP recordings

Hi,

I finally fixed my old turnatble and hooked up my RCA jacks to a 1/8"
connector which I connected to my Line In on the sound card. The signal is
coming in in Mono not stereo and sounds very thin no bass. I know i probably
need a pre amp but why is it coming in in Mono. I checked and I do have a
stereo type plug Any Ideeas? Thx
