LP-->CD

Greetings: Have a Dell Dimension 2400 with the CD/DVD burner and "MUSICMATCH
jukebox". Can I/how do I connect a turntable to the PC so I can copy some of
the hundreds of vinyl LP records I have to a CD? Also, anybody with this
experience: what make & model turntable best/good for this purpose?
Thanks,
Rick C.

from the "musicmatch" website. hint: vinyl = LP

Line-in Recording
Want to breathe new life into those old vinyl records and
cassettes? Musicmatch Jukebox Plus lets you easily record
MP3s from vinyl, cassettes or any line-in source with
line-in recording.

find turntable = garage sale...flea market...ebay.

Any turntable that provides stereo will do. Just take the output of the turnatable and feed
it to the Line-In of the audio card or motherboard. If the line levels of the turntable are
too low, you may need a pre-amp. RadioShack can provide you with all audio cables, maybe a
turntable and a pre-amp if needed.

I don't know if MUSICMATCH jukebox can take analog audio and create a WAV file. I do know
the software SoundForge will. Once you have the WAV file(s) you can then burn standard
audio CD's using NTI CD Maker, Roxio and I believe Nero will too.

In addition
If you post to UseNet with your TRUE, not a munged, email address then you have invited the
swen Internet worm [aka; W32/Gibe-F] to visit you.

The Swen is news spelled backwards. The reason it is called this is because the Swen worm
harvests email addresses from UseNet News Groups. It has an engine that allows it to post
itself to UseNet News Groups and well as it has its own email engine. From the list of
email addresses that it has harvested, it will then email itself to those addresses.

When I recorded my Vinyls to CD, I was using Cool Edit
pro. The turntable I had was just a Kenwood with it's own
amplifier. If I remember correctly I plugged it into the
line in part of the sound card.
I do have the old tutorial from Cool Edit (I believe
Adobe have taken over and I couldn't find it on the
internet). If you want, I could send it to you. Let me
know.
Remove the NOSPAM from the sender's address.

You need a sound card with auxiliary input capabilities.

All sounds cards and MB based chip-sets provide a Line-In. That's all that's needed.

Another option would be to download the recordings from the net. If
you've purchased the vinyl version there should be no copywrite issues.

Except that you won't download WAV files from Internet. They are just too large. WAV files
are un-compressed RAW sound format files. If you download music from the web it is in MP3
format which is a compressed format. The compressed formats do NOT have the same sound
quality of WAV files therefore this is not as good an idea as you may think it is. The only
format that you *may* be able to download that has the quality of WAV files are SHN files.
I doubt that they are available for older albums.
