Low Power Consumption Monitor Suggestions?

I'd like suggestions for low power consumption lcd monitors-preferably
ones that are inexpensive and compact.

I live off-the-grid, so power consumption is a real issue.

I've seen some stuff that is oriented to the "carputer" market-but I
want something a bit larger. DC input is a big plus here.

I'd like to put together something similar to this project:

But, I wani to include a battery pack. I think I have a good handle on
most issues except the monitor.

If you can hold off a bit, wait for OLED. Most of the power consumption of
an LCD monitor is the backlight. OLED requires no backlight. OLED is not
future technology, it's very much in the present. It's mostly used for
smaller screens like cell phones and PDAs, but it's being scaled up.
Eventually, OLED will replace all current display technologies like plasma
and LCD. It has many advantages, only ONE of which is ultra low power
consumption. -Dave

I'm looking at doing something in the next 1-3 months. I can believe
that at some point OLED would make a _GREAT_ upgrade. I can find an
inexpensive monitor for $169 that consumes allegedly 21 watts.

I'd like to shave a bit off that(say get down to 15 watts)--and deal
with a form factor more conducive to my project(I'd have to take the
case off that monitor for my purposes.

There are plenty of 8 inch lcd monitors that use 9 watts or so.they
are mostly touch screen monitors for automobile applications. I don't
want a touch screen--and I would prefer doing as little in the way of
case modifications as I can get by with.

Perhaps you could get one of these. Apparently, the OLPC display
is perfectly readable in sunlight, unlike ordinary laptop displays.
Don't ask me where you'd buy just the display though.
