Low Disk Space on System Partition (Windows 2000 SP4)

Hi!

I have a critical problem on my Windows 2000 Server SP4 which act as my DC
(from MS Windows NT Server upgraded to Windows 2000). It has an available
disk space of less than 500MB. I already move some applications from System
drive to other drive but still it is not enough. I am thinking that I may
buy additional HDD and run a ghost copy (using Norton Ghost) with greater
partition size on the new HDD. Is this the right way to handle this scenario
or if there are other ways, can you share it with the group?

Hoping for your immediate response.

Yes, this is the right way to do it. I also recommend that
you check available disk space on a weekly basis so that
you can respond when you drop below 20% of capacity.
It's much nicer planning ahead than putting out fires!

Thanks for the reply. Can you give me steps on how to do it? currently,
System partition was mirrored, do I need to break the mirror?

I have a HP ML370 G3, do i need to arrange the drive or I just insert the
new one to the blank hard drive swapable slot since I already have 3x36GB of
SCSI HDD?

Here is what I would do:
1. Break the mirror.
2. Clone the system partition.
3. Remove the old system disk.
4. Test the clone.
5. Create a new mirror.

I am not familiar with your HP server and cannot give you
any specific advice about the mechanical details. The overall
rule is: Whatever you do, make sure that you can back
out in case things go wrong.
