Help - I thought Excel could open just about any version
of Lotus 123 files. I have a disk containg files ending
in WKS, but when I try to open using Excel (Office XP
2000 version) I keep getting the incompatible file
message. PLease can anyone tell he how to get these
files open.

Here is from Excel 2003 help regarding this

Lotus 1-2-3 file format Release Notes
WK4 (*.wk4) 4.0 Saves the entire workbook
WK3 (*.wk3)
WK3, FM3 (*.wk3) 3.x and Lotus 1-2-3/W Saves only worksheets and chart
sheets
WK1 (*.wk1)
WK1 (FMT) (*.wk1)
WK1 (ALL) (*.wk1) 2.x Saves only the active sheet
WKS (FMT) (*.wks) 1.0 and 1.0A Saves only the active sheet

If you have Lotus try to save as WK4 format from Lotus (I don't remember if
that is possible)
I am sure there are commercial converters as well. MS is such a monopoly now
it won't
probably give a damn anymore about Lotus although Excel was a Lotus clone
for a while

Are you sure the WKS is not a Works file? I believe that is the extension
Works uses too (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

The Lotus WKS format is truly ancient. Around 20 years old...
