I have a large number of processes running on my machine. Is there a way or
program that will actually tell me what they belong to and how can I
"control them. In other way which would I need to run a faster machine.

I run Windows XP Prof. Sp 2 and I have all the updates installed including
the latest on for OE Sp2 which just came out.

My computer has plenty of disk space and a Pentium III 1 gig with 512 mega
bytes of ram.

An advice appreciated.

Regards,

Werner.

Hi,

Security TaskManager by Neuber is not bad.
http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/taskmanager.html

There are some of the windows XP services that can be disable in order to
increase your machine performance.
You can get which services can be disable at
http://techrepublic.com.com/5138-10877-5747817.html

You can increase the performance by reducing the starting up programs.
You can type msconfig in run under startmenu. Under startup tab, uncheck all
the unused or unnecessary process that will load at the start up.

Another trick you can use is, change the XP interface to classic interface
without any glassy button and menu and use classic login interface.

If you look closely, you will notice that many of the processes are not
running at all, and will not affect performance..
