I have my windowsxp cd from my old computer, but I didn't
take the authentication number off the old one, and it is
gone. Is there a way I can use my windowsxp on my new
system? It asks for the number, but it is lost. What can
I do?

Unless you can gain access to your old computer to read the product
key, you're pretty much out of luck. If the copy on your old PC was
an OEM version (pre-installed) - according to MS it died along with
your old computer. You might want to go here first and do some
reading:
