This morning I needed to use a restore point but when I
tried there was no record of any. I created a new one and
that appeared OK. I don't believe it is a space problem
as I have 1095 MB allocated.

Where are restore points saved on the hard drive? I would
like to recover them from my backup.

Check that System Restore has not been disabled, Bob.

You can try Start/Run, type services.msc and scroll to System Restore in
'Extended' and click Restart.

Ed,
Thanks. System restore is enabled and running so that's
not the problem.

Gordon,

Thanks for the link.

Yes, there were restore points. I created a manual one a
few days ago and an automatic one was created by a
windows update a few days before that. Several should
have been visible.

The calendar displayed for selecting restore points shows
nothing for October, except the one I put in this morning
to check the system was working. I cannot select
September.

But have you actually DONE anything to create a Resore
point like install new hardware drivers or something like
that? XP only creates a Restore point automatically when
certain actions are taken.
