Lost Photo Folder

F

Frances McNeil

I've read many of the postings regarding lost photos but haven't found an
answer to my problem. I was (mistakenly I've since learned) trying to move
a folder of photos from my hard drive to a CD and the folder disappeared.
I've done a systems search without any success. Because it was not
deleted, it is not in the recylce bin. Can anyone suggest how this folder
might be recovered. What recovery program would work with a lost file that
wasn't deleted?

Any help for me.

I could be wrong but it sounds like you
just dropped the folder inside another
folder and you don't know where to find it.

Do a search for *.jpg if you find any of
the lost images...right click one and
choose...Properties...look at "Location"
for the path to the image.

For future reference, if you wish to use
the Win XP options for burning CDs...
read the following article:

How did you search?
Click on Start and ckick on Search.
In the boz "All or part..." type in exactly this:
*.jpg
The first character must be * and then .
Click on More advanced options and check on the first three boxes. Click on
Search.
This will return a thumbnail of all the photo files on your hard drive.
If you see a thumbnail of the missing photos, stop the search, right click
on the thumbnail and click on "Open containing folder" on the opening menu.

If this does not work let us know.

I did the search using *.jpg and it turned up every photo in my other folders
but not the lost folder. Any other thoughts? Thanks

I did the search using *.jpg and it turned up all my other photos but not the
missing folder. However, at your suggestion, I linked to the article on
CD-Rom Recording and following the path to the hidden folders in Local
Settings, I found within the Microsoft folder, a folder labelled OIS and,
low-and-behold, there are the pictures in a folder called "Thumbnails". The
only problem is that they are glued together as a sheet of thumbnails. Can
you suggest how they can be restored from there. I copied the file of this
sheet of thumbnails back to my pictures folder but all the pictures still
remain as one file!!

Any explanations?

No the folder never reached the CD. I have used your suggested search method
on the CD as well as on the hard drive and that turned up nothing. However,
after including hidden files in my search, I have since located a file of
thumbnails (see my earlier response to John Izner) in a folder named OIS
under Local Settings\Application Data\Miscrosoft but as explained in that
posting, I can't get the thumbnails to revert to individual files!!!
