lost network connectivity

I seem to have messed up the peer-to-peer network connection on our XP_Pro
computer. I wanted to share one of the drives. Right-clicking on the drive
and choosing Sharing told me the computer was not on the network. I went
through the wizard, leaving the computer name and workgroup name that were
present. Now on reboot I get the message that the network connection is
unplugged and I can't see any of the computers on the network. I'm used to
Win9x where I can go to network properties and see things such as
Identification and Configuration. (I think the problem is the wrong
workgroup). Without being able to see/find the Network Properties I'm lost
as to troubleshooting.

Make sure you turn off SIMPLE FILE SHARING in your folder options>>View>>
VERY BOTTOM. That is the easiest way.

VERIFY::::::::

NOTE: Make sure your NIC card is working first of all. It seems your NIC
card or cable unplug from the Network Interface Card port.

NOTE: BY TYPING WINIPCFG USING COMMAND PROMPT IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET YOUR IP
CONFIG PROPERTIES IN YOUR WINDOWS 98 COMPUTER.

ANYWAY VERIFY THOSE:

1. Check your IP CONFIG. Every computer has 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.254
2. If you have two IP address for example 169.10.3.4 in one computer and
192.168.0.1 in another computer does not work. Must be in the same subnet.
3. In windows 98. Open up the COMMAND PROMPT and type ipconfig and if
addresses different, type winipcfg and change your address to something like
192.168.0.1 and your Windows XP PRO should be 192.168.0.2 like that, one way
or the other.
4. Make sure your both computers are in WORKGROUP.
5. AFTER TURNING OFF SIMPLE FILE SHARING GOING TO FOLDER OPTIONS>>
VIEW>>UNCHECK SIMPLE FILE SHARING; To share your drive >>> Right click on
Drive>> Sharing and Security>> Give a share name Make sure security everyone
full control or you can make read only. Click OK.

CON: I think it is problem with your Network Interface Card or Cable.
Changing the workgroup cannot give you an error message Network Cable
Unpluged. Lost Connectivity only happen when your Network Interface Card went
bad or loose cable.
