When you publish use the Publish All option and when asked about navigation select the replace option
Also check your nav view to make sure the home page has the home icon in it and that non of your file names have spaces in them
Run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks

| web. The site has alot of pages where I would have to
| recreate the navigation. How do I do this.... just add
| each page by dragging and dropping to the Navigation view
