I lost my product key for windowa xp home ed. and all the
other discs that came with my computer how can I get them
back?

Thanks

Bill

Greetings --

Well, if the disks came with the computer, then your product key
is most likely on a label stuck to the side of the computer. As for
replacing the OEM installation CDs, contact the PC's manufacturer.

If it's an OEM setup (if the OS came with the computer when you bought it)
Then call the PC manufacturer. If it is still installed and running on your
computer, you can install and run Belarc and it will give you the product
key.

If it was a retail disk, you may contact M$ for a replacement CD for only
the cost of the CD _IF_ you have the product ID. Below is another helpful
link.

Go to control panel\ system\ general and look where it
says "registered to:" The number there is the number that
was on the sticker that came with the original disk. You
can in fact use any disk of the same OS version with that
number, on that computer.
Alternate method is to start/run/regedit ,and search
the hk_localmachine software microsoft windows registry
for the info. The registration\serial numbers for all your
software are in the registry also so diligent seaching
should find you the info you need if it is not displayed
when you start a prog such as MS Office.

The product key is needed, get EVEREST from www.lavalys.com
and it will show you.

er, no...that's the product id. But it's not the 25 digit number that's used
for installation.

to the OP: others have already told you how to find the key, but I'd suggest
you call the PC manufacturer and get duplicate disks for everything, even if
you don't need them all right away.
