Lost my product key & need to reinstall xp

I'm currently in another country (Japan) and have possibly accidentally
deleted some possibly important components of windows to clear some memory.
So I need to partially reinstall windows xp.
I brought my windows xp install kit disc but not the product key which it
is promting me for. The product key I suspect is packed away in a box
somewhere in NZ.
I have entered the product key before on the pc in question so is there
anyway of retrieving it from somewhere in the pc? Or anyway at all of getting
hold of this product key for this cd kit? The sticker on the casing of my pc
is the wrong product key from a former installation
I don't have to buy windows xp all over again do I?

Help I need to finish my work.
