lost internet modem

I had spyware on my windows 2000 professional, and I took it off because it
was slowing down my programs. After I removed it, my internet modem went with
it and I cannot get on the Internet now. When I go into settings, control
panel, then modem it says modem cannot be found.
Can someone help me?
