I have recently formatted my hard drive and installed
windows xp. I now find that when I connect to the internet
I lose the connection after just a few seconds. I am
connected via an ethernet card to a cable modem. If I
connect via USB I have identical problems to connecting
via ethernet.
I removed windows xp and reinstalled windows me, and
everything works OK, I do not lose the internet connection.
I have now formatted hard drive and reinstalled windows
xp. Again I can only stay connected to the internet for a
few seconds, however if I reboot into safe mode then
everything works OK.
I have absolutely nothing else connected to the computer
in the form of hardware or software.

Not sure, but could this be related to the blaster/lovesan virus?

Posted 'as is'. If there are any spelling and/or grammar mistakes, they
were a direct result of my fingers and brain not being synchronized or my
lack of caffeine.

Didn't think to mention, you may want to burn the patch onto a CD along with
a removal tool like stinger from McAfee.
