Lost internet access on one pc

T

Tony G.

I have a four Pc network (3 win98 se, 1 xp home) where
all pc's share a dsl internet connection that is hooked
up to a Linksys wired router.

All pc's are wired into the router with cat5 10bt cables.
All Pc's are connected to a 8 port 10/100 hub with a
Novell Netware server which they log into perfectly using
the same hub and cables for connectivity.

The following settings have been confirned to be
identical all pc's: DNS & default gateway, IP subnet mask.

Each Pc has one staic Ip address: 192.168.1.5,
192.168.1.10, 192.168.1.15, 192.168.1.20

The problem is one pc has lost internet connectivity. If
I ping one of the other Pc's It receives four replies but
it beep before the 1st reply is received because it is
attempts to display a graphic figure which it cannot do
properly in dos. The other pc's don't attempt to display
this graphic and they work fine.

I can ping the other pc's and the outer, but nothing past
the router. There are no rules in the router to exclude
any IP address or filters. The router is still setup in a
generic manner.

If you have a suggestion, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Tony G.

Tony,

The beeping is probably a DNS resolution problem.

DNS resolution is affected by the LSP / Winsock subsystem.

Give LSP-Fix and WinsockXPFix <http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm>, or WinsockFix
<http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=257> a shot.

If XP SP2, Start - Run - "cmd". Type "netsh winsock reset catalog" into the
command window.

If no help yet, reset TCP/IP.

Start - Run - "cmd". Type "netsh int ip reset c:\netsh.txt" into the command
window.
