Lost Hard Drive after Cloning

Joe

I am running WinXP Pro SP2

I have cloned my hard drive to get a larger drive for C:, D:, E: & F:
This apparently worked fine.

I also had a second hard drive G:. After booting with the new cloned
drive, I cannot see the G: drive in Explorer. If I look at device
manager, it says the disk is there and functioning properly.

I have tried removing the drive and then readding it without success.

Any help or suggestions would be greatfully appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

I had this problem with an external, turns out it was a setting in tweakui,
the box
in the "show drives" area wasn't checked.Do you use tweakui?

I used to have TweakUI installed.

When I went to look for it, I could not find it in the control panel.

It was listed in Add/Remove Programs. I deleted it and then
reinstalled. But I still do not see it in the Control Panel.

I found TWEAKUI.

When looking at the drive, it shows the drive checked, but there is a
little red questionmark on the drive. Similiar to all other letters
not assigned.

So it appears I am still where I started. The hardware exists but
windows will not see it.

TweakUI locations:

Windows 98 = Start | Control Panel

Winows XP = Start | Programs

Hi Joe,

What program did you use to "clone" your drive?

If it was Ghost, it may be that your drive letters haven't been asigned
just yet. In Win 2000 I had to go through Start/settings/control
panel/Computer management/Storage/Disk Management - then change drive
letter as none were assigned yet.

XP might have a slightly different trail to get there, but you have
similar tools to look around with.

Good luck!

Check to see if the drive has been assigned a letter... I might be that
your virtual drive temporarily took over the drive letter "G", leaving your
other HD high and dry...

Right Click MY COMPUTER (On Desktop)
Select MANAGE
Under the STORAGE section in the left box, choose DISK MANAGEMENT
This will show you all your drives, partitions, etc. Each should have a
drive letter assigned to it. If your second HD ("Disk 1" it reads on my
system) doesn't have a drive letter assigned to it, right click it and
choose whichever option is for the drive letters assignment. My system has
the option "Change Drive Letter and Paths...", though I'm sure that because
it has a letter assigned to it. Your may read something like "Assign Drive
Letter" or similar..
