XP indicated master and slave hd failure. Reboot had same
error. Shut down and unplugged. Start up found C: drive
which is failing but the driver for D: drive did not
load, uninstalled and reinstalled and D: is there but the
drive is unformatted. The capacity is shown as 0 on the
D: drive I need to recover the data on that drive any
suggestions would be welcome.

Do not do anything to the hard drive/drives. If you have important
information that can't be replaced from backups, you should consider a
professional data retrieval solution.
You can try rebooting a few times without changing any settings, to rule out
an isolated glitch; but limit your accesses to the hard drives to the
minimum.
If you can access any data from the hard drives, do so, as it looks like you
data is very close to being permanently lost.
I would suggest you purchase a new hard drive with adequate space to image
the old drive to a new hard drive. Check on the links below for more
information on alternative methods of retrieving the data.
