Lost Folders

For some reason I have lost some of my folders that came
with the system. I am missing local settings and
application data folders after I go into c:\documents and
settings/owners name/ supposed to be local
settings/supposed to be application data...

Please help, how can I just lose folders on my machine, I
didn't delete them.

tools folder options and view,dot show hidden files and
folders and uncheck hide protected os files. apply and ok
and voila just like magic you have your files again.
