Lost floppy fix?

Dustin

I've been using XP for a while now with little to no
problems. But recently my floppy drive started bugging
out. My computer recognizes that it's there, but doesn't
see any conflicting devices or other problems. However, if
I try to view any floppy disks it reads for a second and
then gives me the following error:

A:\ is not accessible.
The floppy disk controller reported an error that is not
recognized by the floppy disk driver.

Then it reads for like 5 more seconds and then shifts back
to the My Computer directory. I figured that it might
just be the disk, so I bought new ones. Still the same
message. I tried to uninstall both the controller and
driver and let windows reload them. Still the same
message. Another thing I realized was that when I got my
computer from DELL, I got a REINSTALLATION XP cd, but
never got an official WINDOWS XP cd OR a drivers cd. Which
leaves me searching around on the internet for the right
drivers. If anybody has a clue on what is wrong with my
floppy, or a clue on what I can do to get it fixed. Please
let me know, I'm getting tired of having to burn even the
smallest of files onto a RW cd just to copy to another PC
at work.

I seem to have a very similar problem... I have tried
everything that you have, but no luck. I bought a new
floppy drive and cable, but it still does not recognize a
disk. The power light comes on and stays on, but the
floppy still does not work. I put the questionout there
also, but have not received any help yet. I do not have
a dell, but I do not think it makes a difference. Let me
know if you find a solution, and vice versa.
