Lost files

I have lost files from within folder. I have done a search and can see the
files as shortcuts. When I try to open the files I get a message saying that
the 'shortcut' has been moved or changed. Why have these files been turned
into 'shortcuts' and hoe can I get them back please.

Right click on the "shortcuts" and pick Properties, Shortcut tab, and
see where Target points to. That would be where the file is supposed to be.

Bob, Thanks but when I do as you suggest although the target looks right it
still tells me that it has been changed or moved. Why have these Word Doc.
files been made into shortcuts?

Where are the "shortcuts"? And do you remember cleaning out the
directory that the shortcut points to? IF you deleted the file or
renamed the folder they were in then the shortcut will no longer point
at the location the file is actually in. The DOCument files do NOT
change in to shortcuts. It's just a matter of finding out what you did
with the file the shortcut is supposed to point to. One method would be
to open Search and look for it that way using the document name.
