Lost Files

I just virus scaned my pc with Mcafee VirusScan and it
found infected and deleted these files that I Cant find on
my install disk. I am running Windows XP Pro and the three
lost files were in the Windows\system32\ directory.
The names are: CMD32.EXE
SYSTEM32.EXE
MSBLAST.EXE

I believe msblast was not a system file and am not sure
about cmd.exe, but on boot up an error says that it cannot
find SYSTEM32.exe . Any help would be appeciated.
Thanks; Errol

Neither system32.exe nor cmd32.exe are windows files.
it's a part of the virus.

There must be something in a shortcut or registry entry that is
pointing to it causing this message.
Boot up in safemode and run msconfig looking for a reference to it.

See this for more info and use a firewall to prevent reoccurrence.

Hi

The MSBLAST.EXE is a version of the Blaster Virus. I
just cleaned a laptop with that when it kept shutting
down while on line. Check with your AV vender for a fix

Thanks for all your replies. I am now sure that any
reference to that system32.exe file is boogus. Thanks very
