Lost EMS for DOS boxes

I have a Dell workstation that has been running a DOS program for
several years now. The program requires EMS, and we had it configured and
working fine. All of a sudden, the EMS has become flaky, meaning that if I
go to a DOS prompt and type "mem" no EMS is shown. If we reseat the two RAM
sticks in the computer, it works again for a bit but then disappears again.
I called Dell and a technician walked me through the diagnostics and the
memory passed. I flashed the BIOS to the latest version. Where do I go from
here?

Actually I wouldn't recommend that (too much residue/condensate). If you
must then use a soft eraser.

| Go to Radio Shack and buy some contact cleaner - use it to clean the the
| memory sockets.

The gold plating is so thin that any abrasive cleaning process is
questionable. I ended up using "Golden Grain" (there is a medical alcohol
that is better, just hard to obtain)

Another option is to just brush it with a toothbrush. That's how I "fixed" my "bad RAM". Effective and cheap. ;)
