Lost domain recognition . . . help!

Hi All,

I'm somewhat of a novice at networking issues, and I've lost the ability of
my Windows XP computer to access pop3 email with Outlook Express, and
websites using domains (standard web addresses). I CAN access web sites if I
have the actual IP address of a web site.

Here's my setup:
A Cisco 678 DSL modem, connected to a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router.
The router is wired to the Windows XP computer, and a Windows 98 computer. A
Windows 2000 computer connects by wireless.

Here are the circumstances of how this happened:

I made no known changes to the system, and suddenly found when I came home
one night that all three of the computers noted were unable to connect to
the WWWeb, nor were they able to access Pop3 email. I talked to Qwest, my
DSL provider, and they determined (with me on the XP computer) that domains
were not being recognized, but IP addresses were. They felt maybe it was a
problem with my ISP. I called them the next day, and they said everything
was fine with their system.

I came home that night, and found that the Win 98 and 2000 computers were
now able to access the internet, with no action on my part. The XP computer
still had the same problems. I tried using the Windows XP Restore feature to
restore back to a time when everything worked. It did not help.

Any ideas on what may be happening here, and how I can restore internet
access to this Windows XP?

Thanks!

sounds like a dns issue. click start/run/ type "command"
or "cmd" (depending on the system), then from the command
prompt, type "ipconfig /all" (xp) or "winipcfg" (98) and
look at the dns server addresses. compare all pc's to see
if there is any difference on the xp machine. You may
need to manually enter the details under the network
connection properties if they don't match the other
machines
