I am using XP home version.

I had a virus which Norton attempted to repair with the
result that my local profile was corrupted. I have
managed to restore all programmes by making another
profile, however my data files are, I imagine, still with
the original profile. System recovery does not work.
Question. Is it possible to recover the data? and how is
this done?
Grateful for any suggestions.

Log in as administrator, take ownership of the files and move them to the
shared documents folder.
then in your new profile, move them into your "My Documents" if that is
where you want them to be...

Since you're using XP Home, you won't have used NTFS encryption. Unless
you used a 3rd party encryption utility, simply log on with an
administrator-level account (in Home you need to be in safe mode to get to
the admin account) and you should be able to locate and take ownership of
the files. Have a look in Help and Support for 'take ownership'.
