Lost command

Does anyone know how to find or re-instate a lost command in Word? Everything
worked fine for a little bit (Saturday and today), and then Ctrl F and Alt E
F suddenly quit working. Whether I use the short cuts or go through the
toolbar menu (Edit > Find), the whole toolbar grays out as though I have
selected a different program. For awhile, if I closed Word and re-opened it,
the function worked again for a little bit and then the cycle repeated
itself. Now I can'd get this command to work at all, even after shutting down
my computer and starting up again. I'm using Word 2002.

Thanks for any advice you might have.

Thank you, Lene, for your suggestion. I tried the first two methods in the
paper, but neither worked. After trying the first method, I thought I would
try it again in case I did something wrong, but the Customize option was
grayed out (I also noticed that earlier when trying to figure out a
solution). I decided to close Word and reopen it, but when I did, I got the
following message: "Runtime Error! Program: c:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office 10\Winword.exe abnormal program termination." I've been
getting that message occasionally (not always) when trying to close Word, so
maybe something is wrong with the program. If anyone has another suggestion,
I would appreciate hearing from you.
