Lost clock and not updating

Yesterday the clock disappeared from my Vista desktop. I tried restoring but
to no avail.

My machine then downloaded updated and tried to install them when I went to
turn off. I left the machine on all night but it still said "Installing 1 of
5 updates" this morning. I turned it off. Every time I try to close it down
I get the same message.

Any ideas appreciated.

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories and right-click
on the Command Prompt and choose "Run as administrator".
Type in: SFC /SCANNOW and press your Enter key.

Boot from your Windows
Vista DVD, select the System Repair Option > on the setup screen, select
'Repair Computer > Select your installation of Windows > select Startup
Repair option and follow instructions.

Thanks it worked a treat!

Actually after the SFC /SCANNOW everything re-appeared and the downloads
installed.

Thanks again,

Noel

Thanks for the info.

When I type in SFC /SCANNOW it does bring the clock etc. back to my
right-hand sidebar.

However when I put my Dell Vista disk in and the only option is to reinstall
or upgrade vista. Would either of these options be any good.

I did find advice that if I pushed F8 key during start up I would get an
additional option in Vista to 'Repair Your Computer' but I only get the
standard menu of Safe mode options.

I have solved the problem!

It is caused by Java - I uninstalled it and then reinstalled and all is
well.
