Lost all systems audio after upgrading t sp2

Upgraded my daughters compaq evo p/4 to sp2 from sp1.SP1 was fine audio
installed but now no system sounds such as (on and of type system sounds) I
have no icon on system bar .However soundmax works but this still sucks.Any
suggestions of fix are welcomed

Reinstall the latest sound device drivers.
