Windows XP lost administrator rights

For some reason I am getting error code 1303 saying I do not have administrator right to install files. I have always been the administrator on this computer. I tried going in and changing my profile to limited and then back to administrator with no luck. Is it an error in my regit file or ?? Could use your help!

My computer is a Dell E610 running XP home.
I have mcaffee security center running
Plenty of hard drive space
2gig of memory

What were you trying to install when you got this error code..Let us know so we have a better idea..

I am having the problem with a range of software...Adobe updates, xp patch 3 update, Mcafee updates,

I was able to download and run regcure. I did that hoping it would clean up my registry and that might help. No luck.

Try this, it sometimes helps me out when working on a customers PC where it wont run a setup or an .exe file http://www.dougknox.com/xp/fileassoc/xp_exe_fix.zip also try dial-a-fix it can repair windows installer issues

See if you can do system changes i.e installations, using the root master (Administrator)
