loss of USBs in xp media edition

need my ipod

i have lost all of my usbs. when i plug anything into them i also lose use
of my cursor . i was thinking of reinstalling xp , hoping to get usb back.
has anyone else had this problem , or have a better solution . any help would
be appreciated.
