Loss of slave hard drive

Richard

I have a 2.00 Gig AMD Athlon 64 with two hard drives, which have worked
perfectly until yesterday when the "slave" suddenly disappeared.
At the time I was working with the master drive transfering data from one
partition to another using Partition Magic 7.
I felt brave enough to check the Bios and found that the detection of the
drives are on "Auto".
The BIOS is a Phoenix Tech LTD 6.00 PG 08/05/2005

Since when does Partition Magic 'transfer data from one partition to
another'?

In any case, open XP's Disk Management snap-in (Start > Run > type:
diskmgmt.msc > OK). Do you see the drive there? If not, then you somehow
deleted it.

Thank you Ted,
Sorry, wrong expression, it should have been "merge a partition".
I followed your instr. my "lost slave drive" is still lost. The BIOS cannot
find it either. Why this sudden loss?
