Losing mini tool bar in Word 2007

I am losing the mini tool bar after a point in Word doc in W2007. The only
options available are an autotext entry and Signatures. Is there a way to
tell what's wrong with the mini toolbar when it does not show a useful popup?

I have deleted templates, reinstalled etc per recommendations found
elsewhere, saved as 97-2003 version, etc.

The worst part is I have a lost the spelling/autocorrect option for
misspelled words.

This mini toolbar thing is a total bust for me.

Thanks,
Ken

The short answer is that the mini toolbar does its own thing and you have
no control over it nor any way of investigating what it is doing.

That said, are you saying that after an amount of use, or after a certain
point in a document, it gives a different popup menu? Or what exactly?

Whilst the mini toolbar is very useful - and is now the only part of the UI
close to the cursor, it is not the only way of doing anything. Most things
can be done with the keyboard, many through the ribbon, and nearly all can
be added to the QAT (but not all at once), so you should still be able to do
what you want; it just may not quite as convenient as it was.

Hi Ken,

Are you referring to the right click (context) menus, the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) at the top of the screen or the mini toolbar
that floats above the right click menu? The minitoolbar has a set format, basically appears only when you're in a text area (i.e.
it's not there when you select an inserted picture). The context (right click) menus change based on the content of the document.

In Word the basic mini toolbar content is:

Top row:

Font name | Font Size | Grow font(1pt) | Shrink font(1pt) | Quick Style gallery | Format Painter

Bottom row:

Bold toggle | Italics toggle | Center text toggle | Highlighter | Font Color | Decrease Indent | Decrease Indent | Bullets

If you don't have the spelling corrections, select the text and check in
Review=>Proofing=>Set Language (or double click the language choice shown in the status bar at the bottom of the Word screen) and
see if the text has been formatted with a language that has proofing tools available and that the 'do not check spelling' box is
turned off.

Tony,

I lose it after a point in the document. I can paste the document contents
into a new doc and get it back for a while. This can be a small multi-page
document with a few pictures. It works above a certain point and not below.

I still have Word 2003 installed, so it might be stumbling with both
versions installed.

I vaguely remember doing everything with the keyboard back in the eighties.
I wonder where I left those little keyboard cutouts? I am getting old and
spoiled.

That you lose it (or anything) part way into a document is odd. As per Bob's
reply, do you really mean the mini-toolbar? The options you describe are
what you might see on right clicking an AutoTextList Field. Does this happen
in all document, or just one - and, if just one, there isn't a chance a lot
of its content has got mixed up in an autotest, is there?
